Apheon, a leading European private equity firm, is pleased to announce that it has acquired a majority stake in Hager & Meisinger Group (“H&M” or the “Group”), a global provider of premium dental instruments and workflow solutions with its two established brands, Meisinger and Jota. Apheon will partner with H&M’s current shareholders and co-CEOs, Dr. Burkard Höchst and Sebastian Voss, who will retain a meaningful shareholding alongside Apheon and remain actively involved in the Group’s continued development.
Founded in 1888 and headquartered in Neuss, Germany, H&M has grown into a leading independent specialist in high-precision dental rotary instruments. Together with Jota AG, based in Rüthi, Switzerland, the Group offers more than 12,000 product references spanning all major rotary instrument categories, with particular strength in diamond and carbide products. Beyond Rotary Instruments, the Group has established differentiated positions in Bone Management and Implantology through procedure-specific solutions developed in close collaboration with leading clinicians and key opinion leaders. Its Global Bone Management & Restorative Network supports clinical education and knowledge exchange among dental professionals. Vertically integrated manufacturing operations in Germany and Switzerland underpin the Group’s engineering expertise, product quality and established “Made in Germany” and “Swiss Made” credentials. The Group serves dental practices, oral surgeons and laboratories in more than 100 countries through its international distribution network.
H&M perfectly matches Apheon’s investment criteria: partnering with the multi-generation family owners and management in a global market leader in an attractive niche market. With Apheon as a partner, H&M intends to accelerate its growth organically and through selective acquisitions, with a particular focus on expanding its presence in the U.S. and strengthening its international commercial reach and distributor partnerships. The Group will continue to invest in its Rotary Instruments portfolio and further develop its Bone Management and Implantology activities, while building on the complementary Meisinger and Jota brands, capabilities and commercial networks. Apheon will support these ambitions through its pan-European network and buy-and-build experience, with a shared commitment to preserving the heritage, product quality and close customer relationships that have defined H&M for more than a century.
Dr. Burkard Höchst and Sebastian Voss, Co-CEOs of Hager & Meisinger, commented: "We are proud of what our team has achieved and see significant opportunities to bring our products and expertise to more customers around the world. It was important to us to find a partner that shares our long-term perspective and respects the heritage, commitment to quality and close relationships on which Hager & Meisinger has been built. We believe Apheon is the right partner for the Group’s next chapter and look forward to shaping it together."
Nils Lüssem, Partner at Apheon and Finn Pilath, Director at Apheon, added: "H&M brings together two established brands, deep engineering and manufacturing expertise and a broad portfolio of high-precision dental instruments. We have been particularly impressed by the quality of the team, the Group’s close relationships with clinicians and distributors and its potential for further international growth, particularly in the U.S. We are delighted to partner with Burkard, Sebastian and the wider team to build on these strengths and support the Group’s continued development."
